Plan your first hire in Australia with an employer of record. Review contracts, payroll, employer costs, onboarding, and local employment requirements.

An employer of record Australia arrangement can help a company hire locally without establishing its own employing entity. The provider should be able to explain the employment basis, award coverage, payroll responsibilities, and any relevant licensing requirements. Start with the actual role and location, not a generic country package.

Identify the employment conditions

Australian minimum conditions can come from the National Employment Standards, an applicable award or registered agreement, and the employment contract. Ask the provider to identify the relevant coverage and classification for the role. The job title alone is not enough to determine pay and conditions.

Confirm the worker and employer details

Document whether the role is full-time, part-time, or casual, the work location, planned hours, and supervision. Confirm which entity employs the person and whether the arrangement requires labor-hire licensing in the relevant jurisdiction. Have the provider explain the requirements before signing the commercial agreement.

Make onboarding a tracked workflow

Agree who prepares the contract, checks work eligibility, provides required information statements, and collects payroll details. Have the employee receive a named contact for pay and employment questions. A complete onboarding record should show that each required step was finished, not merely that an invitation email was sent.

Budget and approve payroll

Request a current calculation of gross pay, employer contributions, superannuation, benefits, service fees, and any applicable payroll tax or insurance costs. Ask the provider to identify the rules behind the calculation rather than using a flat percentage estimate. Agree how overtime, leave, expenses, and salary changes are reviewed before payroll closes.

Notice and redundancy obligations depend on the applicable conditions and circumstances. Ask the EOR to review a proposed exit before a manager communicates it. Confirm the final-pay calculation, equipment return, access timing, and record retention, including any obligations that survive the commercial agreement.

Payroll in local currency or stablecoins

Establish the local employment and payroll obligations first. If you want a stablecoin payout option, ask which worker, currency, consent, tax, and settlement conditions apply. Do not assume a payment method changes the wage obligation or replaces local payroll records.
